Surface Preparation - Wrought Iron or Steel

The Wrought Iron or Steel surface you are working with may have to be treated differently depending on its current state.

New uncoated

For optimal results on a Wrought Iron or Steel surface in a new or uncoated state, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.

Preparation
  1. Wash down with general purpose cleaner or Ultra-Clean
  2. Rinse with clean water
Application
  1. Apply 1 coat Ultra-MetalPrimer
  2. Apply 2 coats of Ultralast product of choice
Products that can be used
Previously painted

For optimal results on a Wrought Iron or Steel surface in a previously painted state, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.

Preparation
  1. Remove all loose paint
  2. Wash down with general purpose cleaner or Ultra-Clean
  3. Rinse with clean water
  4. Sand down with 220 grit sand paper to provide a key
  5. Wipe clean
Application
  1. Apply 1 coat Ultra-MetalPrimer
  2. Apply 2 coats of Ultralast product of choice
Products that can be used
Rusted and not painted previously

For optimal results on a Wrought Iron or Steel surface in a Rusted and not painted previously state, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.

Preparation
  1. Remove loose rust
  2. Wash down with general purpose cleaner or Ultra-Clean
  3. Wipe down with damp rag
Application
  1. Apply 1 coat Ultra-MetalPrimer
  2. Apply 2 coats of Ultralast product of choice
