Surface Preparation - Timber
The Timber surface you are working with may have to be treated differently depending on its current state.
For optimal results on a Timber surface in a new / unpainted state, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.
- Preparation

- Sand down
- Remove dust
- Application

- Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
- Sand down with 150 mm grit paper (or liner)
- Apply another coat of Ultra-BondFirst
- Apply 2 final coats of Ultralast product of choice
- Products that can be used
For optimal results on a Timber surface in a previously painted state, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.
- Preparation

- Remove all dirt and loose paint by coarse sanding or paint stripper if necessary
- If paint stripper has been used, wipe down with laquer thinners
- Sand down with 150 grit paper
- Dust / wipe off
- Application

- Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
- Sand down with 150 mm grit paper (or liner).
- Apply another coat of Ultra-BondFirst
- Apply 2 final coats of Ultralast product of choice

- Ensure surface is clean
- Sand of loose fibre ends in partularly rough areas and dust off
- Application

- Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
- Apply 2 final coats of Ultralast product of choice

- Preparation

- Rub down blackened layers with steel wool and a solution of oxalic acid or timber restorer or timber bleach.
(This step method only required if a clear finish is required) - Rinse with clean water and allow to dry
- Sand smooth with 150 mm grit paper and wipe clean
- Rub down blackened layers with steel wool and a solution of oxalic acid or timber restorer or timber bleach.

- Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
- Apply 2 final coats of Ultralast product of choice
- Products that can be used

- Apply a paint stripper
- Rub with steel wool and laquer thinners
- Rinse with clean water
- Allow to dry. Sand down to a smooth finish
- Application

- Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
- Apply 2 final coats of Ultralast product of choice
