Surface Preparation - Putty

The Putty surface you are working with may have to be treated differently depending on its current state.

New / unpainted

For optimal results on a putty surface in a new / unpainted state, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.

Preparation
  1. Putty must by dry for at least 7 days
Application
  1. Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
  2. Apply 2 coats of Ultralast product of choice
Products that can be used
Previously painted

For optimal results on a putty surface in a previously painted state, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.

Preparation
  1. Remove loose flaking paint by brass** brushes or sanding
  2. Wash down with general purpose cleaner or Ultra-Clean
  3. Rinse with clean water
  4. Cracks can be filled with a filler and Ultra-BondFirst (in place of water)
Application
  1. Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
  2. Apply 2 final coats of Ultralast product of choice
Products that can be used
**Although a wire brush can be used, brass or stainless steel is preferred as wire brushes can leave small traces of wire behind which can result in rust traces.
