Surface Preparation - Plastered Walls

The Plastered Walls surface you are working with may have to be treated differently depending on its current state.

New / unpainted

For optimal results on plastered wall surfaces in a new / unpainted state, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.

Preparation
  1. Allow plaster work to dry at least for 7 days before painting
  2. Fill up cracks with a Polly filla using Ultra-BondFirst in place of water
  3. Sand down to a smooth finish
Application
  1. Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
  2. Apply 2 coats of Ultralast product of choice
Products that can be used
Previously painted & in a good condition

For optimal results on previously painted plastered wall surfaces in a good condition, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.

Preparation
  1. Abrade walls thoroughly with sand paper
  2. Wash down with general purpose cleaner or Ultra-Clean
  3. Rinse with clean water
Application
  1. Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
  2. Apply 2 coats of Ultralast product of choice
Products that can be used
Previously painted & in a poor condition

For optimal results on previously painted plastered wall surfaces in a poor condition, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.

Preparation
  1. Strip completely back to bare substrate and treat as for new Plaster
  2. Fill up cracks with a Polly filla using Ultra-BondFirst in place of water
  3. Sand down to a smooth finish
Application
  1. Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
  2. Apply 2 coats of Ultralast product of choice
Products that can be used
Moisture penetration of walls / wall cancer or efflorescence*

For optimal results on moisture effected plastered wall surfaces in a poor condition, please follow the instructions below for preparation and application. Links to the products utilised in this guide are listed below.

Preparation
  1. Remove excess thoroughly by scraping or brass** brush
  2. Apply Ultra-BondFirst Prep and work into surfaces
  3. Leave 30 min then rinse of with clean water
  4. If necessary repeat
Application
  1. Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
  2. Apply 2 coats of Ultralast product of choice
Products that can be used
*As the water evaporates, it leaves the salt behind, which forms a white, fluffy deposit, that can normally be brushed off. The resulting white deposits are referred to as "efflorescence" in this instance

**Although a wire brush can be used, brass or stainless steel is preferred as wire brushes can leave small traces of wire behind which can result in rust traces.
Solid plastered walls and unpainted

Preparation
  1. Remove all dust and dirt
Application
  1. Apply 1 coat Ultra-BondFirst
  2. Apply 2 coats of Ultralast product of choice
